Which Classes are for Me?

The question we're most frequently asked is "Which classes should I take?". We always recommend starting with Photography 101 and 102. Additionally, all of the events on our calendar have a detailed course description on their signup pages for your information.

Photo 101 covers basic composition. This is the art class and it is suited to all levels and all cameras. (even a cell phone!). Whether you're a total beginner or semi-professional, we know you'll learn something new about art in this class! The techniques of framing, perspective, lighting and more can be employed immediately to take better pictures without piles of technical information.

Photo 102 covers how to use your camera. Did you buy a new camera (DSLR or mirrorless) with a full set of controls? Do you want to learn how to use it? This class is for you. We will cover shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance and more, all with hands-on practice and hands-on activities that reinforce your new knowledge. Students will leave the class with a much deeper understanding of how to use their camera in manual mode and can begin immediately using the techniques to improve their photos.

While our classes are designed with a complete, well-rounded program in mind, they do not need to be taken in any particular order beyond that- So we decided to make a nice infographic to show you the order we recommend based on your interests. Just click the image on your left and follow your interest at the top down through the accordion below!
