Community for Improving & Educating Photographers

*FREE* 100 strangers presentation and critique

*This week our friend and guest speaker Carlos Chavez will discuss his journey through making portraits of 100 complete strangers on the streets of San Diego and how this affected him as a photographer and person. We will view some of the work of course too Don’t miss it! It will be a 30-40 min talk followed by normal critique operations as outlined below.

This event is geared toward improving your photography with honest, constructive criticism, while enjoying a night at the studio with fellow photographers. Each forum will start with a brief 30 minute lecture and introduction of everyone and then lead into the critique section. This free event is held at the end of every month because with the goal of having everyone in attendance present their photo assignments that were assigned to them from our local or online classes. This is something incredibly valuable from a learning experience and allows you to not only get feedback on your photos but get ideas from other people’s photos and learn from each other.

Participants will have a chance to get their work critiqued by professional photographer Jason Kirby and any additional instructors that are in attendance. Peer input will also be given. This is a very fast way to learn the ins and outs of what makes a great photograph.

How it Works

  1. Show up on time with a way for you to share your photos. This can be either via a USB drive, SD card, compact flash, or online gallery. Please have this ready so we can efficiently move from one person to another.
  2. Please limit your amount of photos to 3-10. If we see there are more than 10 photos we will pick a few from the mix to critique so that we can give as many people as possible a chance for a critique.
  3. Anyone is allowed to attend and have the opportunity to be critiqued but students that have completed one of our local or online classes and have their assignments completed will have priority in the order of critiques.
  4. If you are unfamiliar with class assignments please refer back to your online classes materials or reach out to your instructor that helped you.
  5. The whole event should take less than 2 hours

Rules

  • You are only allowed to tell us what your assignment or purpose was for the photos. You must wait until you are addressed after being critiqued to provide the story behind the photo.
  • No inconsiderate or innappropriate feedback/critique will be tolerated. This is meant to help lift you up and make you better, not to put you down. All experience levels will be present and this rule will be enforced to provide a comfortable environment.
  • Please come ready with your photos ready to view.
  • If we run out of time it priority is given to past students with assignments to share and with left over time will go to critiquing other photos submitted. The instructors are usually willing to hang out later so if your photos were not selected you can ask the instructors if they wouldn’t mind staying late to give you a critique. We always try to be as accommodating as we can.

The event is FREE! Please take advantage!
