Community for Improving & Educating Photographers
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is home of the country’s rarest pine tree – pinus torreyana. Long ago, this particular pine tree species covered a much larger area, but currently it grows only at Torrey Pines State Reserve and on Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Santa Barbara. The reserve is located within San Diego city limits, but remains one of the wildest areas of land on the Southern California coast. The foresight of the members of this community made it possible for these 2000 acres of land to be largely untouched, with rare and elegant flora, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds, all of which make this area the perfect location for our ‘Understanding Landscape and Nature Class’.
The class meets at lifeguard tower #2 near the park’s lower lot. Street parking on Coast Highway is recommended as the pay lot closes at sunset. Please arrive early to find a spot.
